Toilet Cleaning Tips
This may not be exactly your most favorite house chore but unless you are willing to pay for some professionals to do it for you, you will need to know how to REALLY clean your toilet. Besides, it is considered to be one of the most important parts of your daily house maintenance. But by really cleaning your toilet, we don’t only mean that you should practice flushing it the right way. You have to know some basic maintenance tips that will ensure the cleanliness and the freshness of your toilet.
It all begins with religiously practicing the habit of maintaining your toilet. Otherwise, you might find yourself having second thoughts whether to sit on your own bowl or not.
For easier cleaning schedule, you can divide the cleaning process into two namely: cleaning for maintenance and cleaning for appearance. Both have different working principles but have almost similar results.
Cleaning for maintenance (this covers the need to clean for health)
Make it a point to attend to your toilet need everyday, this habit would only take a while. Incorporating the toilet maintenance habit with your shower habits would make the work a lot easier for you. Everyday, perhaps every morning before you go to work or every night during your relaxation bath, you should sprinkle or spray the toilet with a toilet cleaning agent. Combine this with light brushing or wiping of unnecessary impurities from the bowl. Pay close attention to hard surfaces or to deeply imbedded stains. During the initial stages, this might seem quite a lot of work but repeating the process habitually and on a regular basis would mean lesser work each time. If you do this, you would be assured that you no longer have to work on the toilet intensively during weekends.
Cleaning for appearance
Cleaning for appearance means more intensive removal of the stains. Your main aim here is to maintain the original appearance of the toilet bowl, resembling its look when you first installed it. During the cleaning process, you have to focus on really dark surfaces, both in the inner and outer parts of the toilet. Emptying the toilet bowl with water first usually works well as this gives you more space and lesser hurdles to work with.
This begins by removing the connection between the main pump and the toilet. After which, the toilet bowl must be flushed several times until all reserve water is emptied. Then, you can begin the work.
Remove the stains using several cleaning agents such as muratic acid and specialized toilet cleaning agents, depending on your preference. Treat all surfaces while brushing, wiping or spraying the cleaning agent. Once the entire surface of the toilet is done, you can now start reloading the water reserve. Don’t forget to place toilet bowl disinfectant so as to help extend the cleaning process.
If you have children in the house, however, and you are very cautious of using toxic substances, you can find great alternatives that work great as well. Here are some of them:
To help keep the odors and clogs, it is advisable that you pour one cup of baking powder on your bowl every week. Also, make use of citric acid to remove the stains in the toilet.
Orange juice helps a lot as a toilet cleaning agent. Use two teaspoons a day, put these in the toilet swish, and then let it sit for a while. For finale, scrub the toilet vigorously while adding more orange juice powder.
Plain cola works well too! Try pouring a bottle of cola on your bowl, let it settle for an hour then flush. You will se how wonderful carbonated beverages work.
You can try leaving vitamin C capsules in your bowl too. Since it is an acid-based substances, impurities in the bowl and stains will likely react to it and thus, loosen their hold on the bowl.
As you can see, even ordinary things in the house could make good toilet cleaning agents.
